Ever been in a meeting that should have been an email? We’ve all been there and probably spent a lot of time thinking about how we wished the facilitator knew how to run an effective team meeting.
Today we are joined by Katie Crichton who is a kindergarten team lead in Guelph, Ontario and wonderful educator. Whether you are a team lead yourself or not, Katie’s tips will help you be seen as a leader and help you feel like a leader in your school community and help you communicate more effectively with your direct teaching team.
Katie’s Tips on how to run an effective team meeting:
>> Have a plan! We all have limited time and limited capacity. If it’s a one liner meeting, just send an email. About a week before you want to meet, ask those meeting with you if there’s anything they want to talk about. The more you can co-create and co-plan what the meeting is about, the better.
>> Know your audience. Working with brand new educators? Focus on more of a mentorship role in your team meetings. Team full of experienced educators? What can we streamline and take off each other’s plates?
>> Be mindful of time and stay on track. Don’t be afraid to respectfully cut people off who are getting off track and offer to stick around and talk to them one on one at the end of the meeting. As the facilitator, build in extra time that you will be available at the end so you are approachable to your team.
